In the events industry, we plan events for various cultures and religious groups.  Each group has certain cultural norms and business practices that we should be aware of and adjust to in order to best serve our companies, clients and event participants.

Cross-Cultural Connections:  Understanding Various Multicultural Norms for Crafting Events

For the past 11 years, Meredith Commender, CSEP has been the owner and Lead Event Coordinator & Designer at Significant Events of Texas - an event coordination firm based in Dallas.   Meredith and her team produce an average of 50 events each year including charitable events, corporate events, weddings and social events for various cultural, ethnic and religious groups.  She is a regular speaker for various Event Industry organizations in North America as well as at Event Industry Conferences.  Meredith is also a former International Judo Referee and spent 20 years of her life traveling around the world refereeing the sport of Judo.

Learner Opjectives:

1.) To understand cultural norms of a variety of cultures we encounter in the events industry

2.) To gain more understanding about food and beverage for various cultural groups

3.) To be aware of how various cultures influence contracts, event logistics and event timelines

MPI KBC ATTENDANCE POLICY:  All Essential Level members or non-members are limited to no more than two events in one fiscal year and must pay the Essential Level/Non-member rate.  MPI Preferred or Premier Level members are welcome to attend all chapter events at the Member Price.

Meeting cancellation notices received 72-hours prior to the event will receive a full refund.  Cancellation notices after the 72-hours prior to event deadline and no-shows are non-refundable.
